There are actually 2 kinds of paid blogging programs. One: you get paid in kind. Two: you get paid per post. Both of these have the same principle. The marketing company hires you to write out positive reviews on a product, service or idea that is yet to be launched in the market. You write these, and submit either your website’s or the blog site’s URL where you published the article. For the former, you actually get the payment before you even write the article, and these are mostly in the form of product reviews. For the latter, you literally get paid every time the marketer approves of the article you have submitted.
Another “blogging” way to make money online free, is by becoming a freelance writer for online based companies who do need bloggers to fill in their quota of written text. You could literally advertise your writing skills at websites looking for freelancers like http://elance.com. If writing is indeed your stuff, but you would rather not go into full time blogging, there are some companies who are looking for forum writers and the like.
In any case, writing can indeed be a lucrative trade on the World Wide Web. However, you need to develop a carefully structured writing system in order to maximize your earning potential. You could also try to ascertain how much you really want to make out of your writing efforts once you have chose the company (or companies) you want to write for. In this regard, you at least have a solid overview of where your cash flow will be coming from and how much you can depend on its constant appearance on your bank account.
